Compress XLS

It so happens that a Microsoft Excel workbook file containing several sheets of 1000 lines each, with simple formulas and without linked tables, begins to weigh an unreasonable amount - 100 or even 200 megabytes, while the file opens for a very long time, sometimes it even refuses to save. What to do in this case? Let's figure it out. You can reduce file size and save disk space by compressing pictures in your document. Compression options reduce the file size and dimensions of the picture depending on how you plan to use the picture, such as viewing it on screen or in an email message. You can compress all images in the file or only specially selected ones.

Often the working area of the xls file does not match the real one. When opened, the program processes a bunch of empty cells that are not needed for work. Accordingly, both the file size and the speed of work in it increase. Open the table and press Ctrl + End. The program will move you to the last line that it considers working. Compare where your table actually ends and the end cell number. If your table occupies 5 by 5 cells, this does not mean that Excel remembers only 25 data cells when saving this file. If you have used any cells on this sheet in the past, then they are automatically included in the used range (the so-called Used Range), which is remembered when you save the book. The problem is that when clearing used cells, Excel does not always automatically exclude them from the used range, i.e. begins to store more data in the file than is actually available.
