Compress FLAC

FLAC is an audio compression codec originally written by Josh Coulson. As the name suggests, FLAC compresses data while keeping it identical to the original, so no piece of data is lost — this is the primary goal of lossless compression algorithms. A digital audio recording (such as a CD-Audio track) compressed into FLAC format can be decompressed into an absolutely identical copy of the audio data. FLAC or Free Lossless Audio Codec is a free codec designed for lossless compression of audio files. It typically compresses the original WAV file - and unlike lossy compression, FLAC does not remove anything from the audio stream. Thus, you get (with a compatible decoder in the system) perfect quality - and noticeably fewer files, which saves on storage costs (after all, hard drives are so expensive these days).

However, this format implies some compression of information, so the same song in FLAC format can take up to half less memory than in WAV format. However, this compression does not affect the quality of the music in any way. it is not music that is archived, as in MP3 format, but the data and processing takes place according to a different principle. FLAC compression ratio is 1.2-3.5 times. Bitrate FLAC with parameters 16 bit / 44.1 kHz / stereo - 400-1200 kbps, the file size of a five-minute recording in this form is 15-44 MB. For lossless formats, of which FLAC is a representative, the rule is higher bitrate - higher sound quality does not work, the quality always remains identical to the original. Compression ratio and bit rate vary depending on the complexity of the compressed material - for example, singing with a guitar lends itself to compression better than recording a symphony orchestra.
