Compress Audio

There are uncompressed audio formats (for example, WAV, AIFF), but for more convenient storage / distribution, codecs are often used that compress audio data. Audio compression is a processing process designed to reduce the dynamic range of a signal (the difference between the quietest and loudest sounds). The word Lossy is used in digital audio to describe the type of compression used to store audio data. The algorithm used in the lossy audio format compresses the audio data in such a way that some information is discarded. This loss of signal means that the encoded sound is not identical to the original.
